2017 Hyundai Xcent Facelift comes with substantial cosmetic upgrades and a new diesel powertrain Hyundai India has lately been strengthening its presence in every segment it competes in. For an enhanced SUV portfolio, the Sante Fe is accompanied by the compact Creta hatchback which turned out to be a runaway success for the company and quickly became a favourite among customers. Bridging the gap between Santa Fe and Creta is the recently launched Tucson SUV. While the latter is expected to get an AWD version in the near future, the Santa Fe could see a facelift along the way in 2017 or sometime next year. Amidst their respective launches, Hyundai has now addressed the Xcent subcompact sedan with a facelift. It has been on sale in the domestic market for over three years. Despite the longevity, it has averaged sales of over 4,000 units in the last twelve months but majority of the Xcent seekers are fleet operators. The new Xcent will be looking to appeal beyond taxi buyers as private customers are targeted to multiply its sales numbers significantly with a heavily redesigned front and rear end alongside improved features. Here is everything you need to know about the facelifted Hyundai Xcent: 2017 Hyundai Xcent Facelift India Launch Hyundai launched two substantial products in the market last year through the new Elantra and the re-entry of Tucson. They seem not to be slowing down as three significant vehicles in the volume space are getting new metal which includes the facelifted Xcent. It follows the launch of Grand i10 as the new Xcent has finally entered India with much anticipation. 2017 Hyundai Xcent Facelift Price Available in petrol and diesel versions, the 2017 Xcent does not differ in terms of pricing from the outgoing model. Prices start at Rs. 5.38 lakh for the base 1.2 petrol E variant while the range-topping SX (O) will be sold at Rs. 8.41 lakh (both prices, ex-showroom Delhi). Though the base price remains similar, the top-end model has seen a premium of around Rs. 35,000 due to addition of new features. The petrol motor produces a maximum power output of 82 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 114 Nm of peak torque attained from 4,000 rpm. The outgoing CRDi diesel mill kicked out 71 bhp of peak power at 4,000 rpm while being able to generate 180 Nm torque delivered between 1,750 rpm and 2,500 rpm. The new motor makes 3 bhp and 10 Nm more and is frugal as well. Power is sent to the front wheels through a five-speed manual transmission as standard on both petrol and diesel engines. However, the top-spec petrol variants are paired with a four-speed automatic gearbox. 1.2L Kappa Petrol 82 bhp/114 Nm/FWD/five-Speed Manual or Four-Speed Auto 1.2L CRDi Diesel 74 bhp/190 Nm/FWD/Five-Speed Manual 2017 Hyundai Xcent Facelift Mileage With alternator management that charges battery during deceleration or when having adequate power, Hyundai has further improved the fuel economy which is a mandatory element for customers, both personal and fleet operators, in the subcompact sedan segment. The petrol manual is claimed to deliver around 20.14 kmpl (1 kmpl more than previous model) whereas the petrol automatic at around 17.36 kmpl as we rightly predicted. The diesel motor is ARAI certified to provide 25.4 kmpl (previous 24.4 kmpl). The bootspace volume stood at 407 litres besides fuel tank capacity of 43 litres. In the facelifted version, no changes to the measurements have been made. The front fascia comes adorned with the signature hexagonal front “cascading” grille with five slats while the expected rounded fog lamp are snubbed in favour of horizontal units. The new sleeker headlamps feature LED Daytime Running Lights in the top-spec variants for enhanced visual appeal. The line holding the Hyundai badge in the middle is eliminated for a more pronounced look. There are no round-shaped LED DRLs on grille’s edges as in the Grand i10 Euro-spec facelift. Alongside the curvy headlamp design, the wing mirrors are shaped to direct airflow to the rear and there are no boomerang-shaped blackened fog lamp enclosures in the heavily revised front bumper. The side profile will remain as it is while rear glass wiper, spoiler-like boot's edge and slightly stubby boot structure, a new set of standard 14-inch or top-end 15-inch silver-finished alloy wheels (rather than diamond cut) add more to the character of the compact sedan. Hyundai has tried to mend the unpleasant and disproportionate look of the rear end as the new bolder split tail lamp design is in line with the current generation Hyundai sedans in the upmarket segments and it will help the car look larger than its predecessor. The refreshed tail lamp unit, rear bumper and boot lid have been brand new and cohesive. The 2017 Hyundai Xcent has a new bootlid with chrome applique and sleek spoiler in the top-spec versions. Due to design changes, the updated sedan look slightly larger than the outgoing model both inside and out. The segment-first features are shark fin antenna and wheel air curtain. 2017 Hyundai Xcent Facelift Interior and Features The interior of the Xcent facelift has undergone minor tweaks as the South Korean automaker concentrates on keeping the costs down rather than upping the premium level of the overall design. The lighter dual-tone colour theme, trim colours and upholstery material have been slightly revised as well. A seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, MirrorLink and Bluetooth connectivity has been introduced as well on the higher grades in a similar fashion to the updated Grand i10. Besides that, there is a new three-spoke multi-function steering wheel with mounted controls for audio and a voice command button that operates when phone is connected via a USB cable as in the Grand i10 facelift. Additionally, a an instrument cluster with analog dials and a digital MID feature in the new Xcent. The key safety and assistance equipment list will include dual airbags, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), keyless entry, engine start/stop, reverse parking sensors and camera, etc. No on-board navigation in the Xcent though and the dual airbags are provided as standard across the range. However, ABS is available only in the SX and SX (O) trims. The outgoing Xcent’s features such as automatic climate control, cooled glove box, storage spaces, rear AC vent and charging socket are carried forward to the new model. The entry-level E variant now misses on full-wheel covers, day/night IRVM, blackened B-pillar section, passenger-side vanity mirror, a digital clock, rear-seat armrest and central locking. The height adjustable driver seat is removed from the S variant while the SX does not get the automatic electro-chromatic IRVM.
