While BMW Motorrad is preparing to launch the naked streetfighter G310R in India, it is also gearing up to bring an adventure tourer model based on the former one. Like its streetfighter sibling the adventure tourer will also be built at TVS Motor Company’s Hosur plant in India, which will help BMW to keep pricing tab aggressive and competitive.

The BMW G310 GS is based on the same platform shared by G310R, and with the GS badge the bike become another member in the German two-wheeler manufacturer’s GS badged adventure tourer range. It has been showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo before going on sale in late 2018.

BMW G310 GS comes taking design cues from its larger siblings F700 GS and R1200 GS. On the other hand it shares some design elements with its other sibling G310R as well. These shared elements include the headlight, wide handlebar, digital instrument cluster. It also gets small windscreen and a beak like cowl, which acts as secondary mudguard.

This adventure tourer is equipped with USD front fork with long 140mm travel and rear monoshock with aluminum swig arm, which can travel 190mm. On braking front the bike sports 300mm front disc and 240mm rear disc, combined with dual-channel ABS. India-spec model could get ABS as option however.

BMW G310 GS takes power from the same 313cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine shared with G310R. The engine is paired with 6-speed transmission and it churns out 33.53 hp of peak power at 9,500 rpm and 28 Nm of peak torque at 7,500 rpm. Once launched in India, it will compete against Royal Enfield Himalayan and KTM Duke 390 Adventure. As Indian market has very small number of adventure tourer motorcycles, the BMW bike has good chance to grab the spot if priced and marketed right.

Expected launch date: Late 2018
Expected price: Rs. 3.2 lakh – Rs. 3.5 lakh
