Toyota says it will wait for the EV charging infrastructure to develop in India before launching electric cars here

Toyota might be aiming to take the leading spot in the world of electric vehicles, but the company doesn’t have any immediate plan to launch EVs in India. However, the company also hints that with the development of EV charging infrastructure in the country, it could start thinking about launching zero emission vehicles here.

Toyota also says that it has capability to introduce electric cars in India at short notice. Considering the fact that Indian government is pushing to introduce zero emission pure electric mobility across the country by 2030, all the auto majors are thriving to grab a sizeable chunk of the Indian EV market that has huge potential. With the infrastructure developed, we are expected to see Toyota entering the fray as well.

If we speak about greener mobility, Toyota certainly played a crucial role in the hybrid car segment of Indian market. The product like Toyota Camry Hybrid has earned positive response here. The company also introduced the Prius Prime earlier this year. Toyota has also hinted that it would bring more hybrid models in the country in near future despite the high cess imposed on these eco-friendly vehicles by the GST Council.

As Toyota says, rolling out pure electric cars here won’t be tough for it. The Japanese automaker says that all it needs to do is take out the internal combustion engine from the hybrid model and it can run as a pure electric zero emission car.

Toyota is aiming to regain the leading place in the world electrified vehicle market. To achieve that goal, the company is planning to roll out dozen electrified cars across the world by 2021. These will include plug-in hybrid, hybrid and pure electric models. We expect the company to bring plug-in hybrid and hybrid models in domestic market. One of them could be the Toyota C-HR hybrid that has already generated pretty much interest among Indian buyers.
