Toyota is aiming to grab the leadership spot in eco-friendly vehicle segment with range of greener cars

Toyota is aiming to launch dozens of new electrified cars in the global market from 2021 in order to regain the top spot in eco-friendly vehicle market that the Japanese automaker lost to Tesla. It is expected that the auto major will bring hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric models soon. These greener cars will come as part of the brand’s new electrification strategy.

Despite being the erstwhile leader in the eco-friendly vehicle segment, Toyota has been pretty slow in terms of rolling out electric vehicles. Earlier, it was working with the Tesla in partnership. But, just a few months back Toyota decided to go alone and launch its own environment friendly products.

The first electrified car from Toyota is expected to arrive in 2021 and it will use solid-state battery. As we reported earlier, the company is not developing this solid state battery that will be the energy source for its future electric cars. Solid state batteries are known for being much lighter compared to the lithium-ion battery. Also, these batteries will come with significantly faster charging time and will deliver more running range as well.

The company is yet to reveal the detail where the new electrified vehicles will be produced. But, these cars are expected to be manufactured at one of Toyota’s new facility in partnership with Mazda. Interestingly, we can expect India to play a major role in Toyota greener car strategy.
