Toyota Launches GR Brand In Japan With Performance Cars

Toyota GR brand is a revised version of G Sports; initially it gets seven models with performance upgrades

Toyota has launched its sub-brand GR in Japan that will dedicatedly develop and sell performance focused cars. Initially, the brand will sell seven different models with aesthetic and mechanical upgrades. The brand comes as a revised version of the G Sports and it has been named after the works Toyota Gazoo Racing division. This brand will help Toyota to build a sportier and more driver focused automaker image that the Japanese company has trying to build for last couple of years.

The cars on offer are Yaris, Prius PHV, Harrier, Mark X, Noah, Yaris GR and Voxy GR Sport. These performance focused versions of the regular Toyota cars will be sold under this sub-brand and Toyota is expected to spread the business across the world in near future. The GR brand will sell its seven different cars across different tires. The lower range gets the GR Sports variants with exterior and interior modifications and along with updated suspension.

The GR models sit at the middle range with performance focused suspension and retuned powertrain. The range-topping Gazoo Racing Masters of Nurburgring (GRMN) cars receive new more power engine alongside updated suspension. As Toyota claims, the sub-brand will sell GR parts for the existing Toyota owners.

The Yaris, Mark X and Harrier GR Sport features extra spot welding in order to provide more rigid bodyframe. The Yari GR gets smaller steering wheel, a 10-speed transmission, aluminium pedals, Sachs dampers, 17-inch aluminium alloy wheels wrapped with performance focused Bridgestone Potenza RE0501 tyres.

Toyota is aiming to introduce more cars to the GR brand offering list in near future. Speaking about Indian market, we can expect the automaker to bring some products here as well, considering the growing demands for performance oriented sporty cars in the country and the automaker’s strategy to focus on premium products instead of mass market models.
