Toyota Fortuner TRD Sportivo has been introduced only in 4×2 AT trim; gets the signature aggressive bodykit enhancing its overall stance
In an exclusive news, we divulged last month that Toyota would be launching the TRD Sportivo body kit for the Fortuner premium SUV and it has become reality. It has been priced at Rs. 31,01,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi) as we have already revealed. TRD (Toyota Racing Department) is the in-housing tuning firm for Toyota and Lexus focussing on emphasising the visual and performance appeal of the standard models.
The production began at the brand’s facility in Karnataka back in August. Bookings have commenced today with the vehicle on display in Toyota dealerships across Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jalandhar, Ahmedabad, Pune, Chandigarh, Ludhiana and Lucknow. Unlike the Fortuner TRD Sportivo sold in foreign markets, the India-spec model is sold in the 4×2 grade of the 2.8-litre diesel automatic version.
Toyota showcased a range of special edition models at the GIIAS (Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show) 2017 in August and one of them was the Fortuner TRD Sportivo enhanced with several visual accessories. On contrary, the Indonesia-bound model looked different to the Thailand and the middle-east market specifications.
As apparent from the decals, it is the same body kit chosen for India. It comprises of TRD branding highlighted with a red line under the blackened grille, new 18-inch diamond cut TRD alloy wheels, TRD Sportivo graphics across the front door and badging at the rear, new side skirts, a larger rear spoiler and shark fin on the roof.
Other important sporty bits are blacked out fog lamp housing with new skirts, red touches on rear bumper, silver running board, silver line bordering the pillars, black wheel arch surrounds and new silver skid plate elevating the muscular stance of the big premium SUV. The TRD Sportivo pack is not as aggressive as you could see in the foreign markets but it does have a pretty compelling stance though.
No extensive TRD Sportivo-based changes on the inside except for sporty red stitch accents though. The latest generation Fortuner was launched last year and it has its equipment list packed now with new additions like six-speed diesel AT with idle start and stop on the 4×2 and 4×4 diesel versions whereas the new fog lamps replace the normal units across all petrol and diesel variants.
Since launching in 2009, the Fortuner is said to have occupied 75 percent of the premium SUV segment market share. The latest Fortuner introduced in November last year has recorded average monthly sales of over 2000 units and cumulatively registered over 21,000 units of sale.
The safety features available in Fortuner TRD Sportivo are impact absorbing structure with pedestrian protection support, four disc brakes with Antilock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA), seven SRS airbags, Vehicle stability control (VSC), Speed auto lock with emergency unlock and Hill Start Assist Control (HAC).
The highlighting exterior elements are LED fog lamps, smart entry with push start, fully automatic power back door with height adjust memory and jam protection and auto bi-beam LED with DRLs along with seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, second row one touch tumble seats, auto climate control, large TFT multi-info display and park assist with back monitor and rear sensors.
