In the list of Top 10 selling sedans in January 2018, Maruti Suzuki Dzire continues to be in the leading position while Verna beat City for third

The leading position in the top-selling sedans table has encountered the latest generation Maruti Suzuki Dzire recording nearly 17,500 units more than that of its closest finisher. For several months in succession, the subcompact sedan has assumed its top spot among all sedans sold in the country and in doing so got the better of Alto as well.

In line with the customers’ approval of brand new launches, Hyundai Verna has outsold the well-established and highly popular Honda City for third position with 4,601 units. However, it has been overtaken by Maruti Suzuki’s Ciaz for second. The Korean sedan though could fancy the top spot in the C-segment next month as it falls behind by only 461 units.

In a similar fashion to the premium hatchback space where Baleno and Elite i20 fight it out for honours every month, the sedan segment has seen Ciaz and City running very close to one other for a long time. However, in January 2018, Ciaz and the Verna had the upper hand and disposed the City to fourth with a total sale of 3,968 units.

Standing in at fifth place, the Xcent subcompact sedan has been playing second-fiddle to the Maruti Suzuki Dzire in its segment with 3,363 examples being sold in the first month of the year. In spite of having less selling numbers compared to the Dzire, the Xcent is running well in its position ahead of the rest.

With the Amaze getting a comprehensive design overhaul sooner rather than later and having impressed spectators at the 2018 Auto Expo, the Xcent and Tigor are going to have a tough time in the market down the line.

It finished seventh last month with a total of 2,836 units. Toyota Etios and Tata Zest slotted in at eighth and ninth respectively with 1,773 and 1,297 units. Despite being a capable sedan, the Figo Aspire could finish only tenth with 1,270 deliveries.
