Tata Motors wants presence in every passenger vehicle segment and aims to become third largest carmaker in the country by FY2019

Tata Motors is planning to become the third largest car manufacturer in the Indian market, right after Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai by the end of FY 2019. In an attempt to be that, the auto major is planning to enter every segment in the passenger vehicle market in the country.

Speaking about the brand’s plan, Mr. Mayank Pareek, President of passenger vehicles division, Tata Motors has said, currently the automaker is catering 59% of the market with its products. In future, it wants to address the rest of the market and enter new segments as well. In recent past, we have seen that the auto major is focusing on new products with stylish and unique design and upmarket features.

The company launched the Tata Tiago hatchback, Hexa lifestyle SUV and both these cars garnered positive response from the customers. It has also just launched the Tigor sedan, which comes with a styleback design. In the compact SUV segment, Tata is preparing to roll out the Nexon, which is also a very unique product.

In India motorisation ratio shows around only around 1.9% people have their personal cars. Tata Motors says, it has a huge chance to cater the remaining 98%. The brand is focusing on developing automobile technologies and launching international quality products. For that purposes, it has already partnered with Microsoft and Volkswagen.

Tie up with Microsoft is certainly hinting towards the automakers futuristic plant to develop connected cars, while partnership with Volkswagen will help Tata Motors to reduce production cost and introduce more superior quality technology in its cars. Also, apart from catering the passenger car segments Tata Motors is focusing on different categories as well. At the recently concluded Geneva Motor Show Tata has unveiled its first sportscar under the sub-brand Tamo, which has grabbed everyone’s attention in the automotive fraternity.
