MG Motor Confirms First All-Electric SUV By Early 2020 For India

MG Motor will be focusing on the SUV segment initially for the growth as they are planning to launch five SUV in the country

MG Motor officially announced that the company will introduce its first product in India next year and the company has already teased the model as it is based on Baojun 530. According to new reports, the British manufacturer owned by SAIC will be initially focusing on SUV segment as they are planning to launch 4-5 SUVs in India starting with the Baojun 530 based SUV.

The company will launch one new product each year as India is going to be an important contributor for MG as they are planning to sell one million vehicles outside China by 2025. If the current plan goes well, then the company expect annual volume to be around 2 lakh units. SAIC, which own MG Motor has already bought the Halol plant from General Motors.

The engineers are focusing on localization as they want to price the products aggressively against the competition. The upcoming SUV is expected to be priced under Rs. 20 lakh but they are not compromising on quality as the company is benchmarking the interior of Boajun 530 based SUV against Hyundai Tucson.

Depending on market acceptance, MG is expected to introduce a seven-seat model based on Baojun 530, but it is going to compete against the Toyota Innova Crysta.

All these models are expected to be manufactured locally or CKD units will arrive from China.
