MG Motors is coming to India next year and ZS is one of the models scheduled to be launched in our market. Earlier this year, the electric version of ZS SUV was spotted on test in China and now the production model has been leaked online. The E ZS measures 4,314 mm in length, 1,809 mm in width, 1620 mm in height and wheelbase of 2,585 mm.
When compared to the regular model, the electric variant is shorter by 4 mm and it won’t make any difference to the performance or drag. The E ZS continues the same design theme as IC powered model except for tweaked bumper at the front and the electric SUV rides on new 16 or 17-inch alloy wheels.
The rear also gets a new bumper and a small ‘E’ badge indicates that it is the eco-friendly version of the SUV. The interior continues the same design as the regular model, but we can expect some changes for the instrument cluster and infotainment system. The E ZS will come with features like climate control, leather seats, projector headlamp, cruise control and more.
The E ZS is powered by a single electric motor producing 150 PS and we can expect good range also. The battery pack might be placed under the passenger compartment as it will help them to lower centre of gravity and the boot space will continue to remain the same as petrol powered siblings.
The regular model of ZS is available with two petrol engine options as 1.5 L DOHC VTI-tech engine produces 106 PS of power at 6,600 rpm and 141 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm. The 1.0 L turbocharged engine puts out 111 PS at 5,200 rpm and 160 NM between 1,800 rpm – 4,700 rpm. The power is sent to front wheels via 6 speed AT for 1.0 L engine and 5 speed AT for 1.5 L unit.
The production model of E ZS is expected to be launched in the Chinese market later this year and the company might bring this electric version to India by the end of this decade. The E ZS will be manufactured at Zhengzhou plant in China.
