Maruti Suzuki Brezza outsold Tata Nexon by 1,873 units in the month of February 2023 to finish on top of the SUV sales charts
Maruti Suzuki’s Brezza compact SUV garnered a domestic tally of 15,787 units in the month of February 2023 as against 9,256 units during the same period last year with a YoY positive sales growth of 71 per cent. The sub-four-metre SUV was the sixth most sold passenger car in the country last month as it finished ahead of its main rival, Tata Nexon.
By doing so, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza has become the most sold SUV in India last month as it overtook Tata Nexon by 1,873 units. It must be noted that the Nexon has long reigned as the best-selling SUV for several months and is a major contributor to Tata’s volumes every month along with the Punch micro SUV.
The Brezza made its market debut back in early 2016 and since then, it set the bars up higher. Meanwhile, Tata introduced the Nexon in 2017 and its sales grew steadily over time. The arrival of the facelifted Nexon in January 2020 really made a big difference as Nexon became one of the top sellers in its segment before heading the volume charts in recent times with consistency.
The Mumbai-based manufacturer is currently working on a heavily updated Nexon, which is expected to hit showrooms in early 2024. The Maruti Suzuki Brezza, on the other hand, gained a new generation in June 2022 with a redesigned exterior and an all-new interior. The equipment list received big updates such as a larger touchscreen, a 360-degree camera system, wireless smartphone charger, six airbags, HUD, etc.
The new-gen Brezza has helped in further closing the gap to Tata Nexon and is responsible for the compact SUV recording higher volume sales than its arch rival. The Indo-Japanese company showcased the Brezza CNG at the 2023 Auto Expo nearly a couple of months ago and it will be launched in the coming weeks.
The Brezza CNG will become the first model in its segment to feature a CNG powertrain and it will aid in expanding its range. The Nexon though is already available in an expansive range with petrol and diesel engine options in manual and AMT combinations.
