Ford’s 1.2-litre Dragon series petrol engine generates 95 hp and 115 Nm; new 5-speed manual gearbox to be introduced
Upcoming Ford Figo facelift and Figo Cross is expected to arrive with the American auto manufacturer’s new 1.2-litre Dragon series petrol engine. The auto major has already launched the EcoSport facelift with new 1.5-litre Dragon series petrol engine. New smaller 1.2-litre motor from the Dragon series will be more powerful and fuel efficient compared to the present engine.
Ford is also expected to introduce a new 5-speed manual transmission in the upcoming Figo facelift and Figo Cross. Not only the Figo range, but Ford’s compact sedan Aspire that shares the same platform as Figo is also ready to receive a facelift. Expect the Aspire facelift to get the same 1.2-litre Dragon series petrol engine and a new 5-speed manual transmission as well.

Speaking about the new petrol motor, its cubic capacity is scaled down to 1,194 cc instead of current engine’s 1,196 cc. The new engine gets smaller pistons and unlike the 1.5-litre Dragon series petrol motor under the hood of EcoSport facelift, smaller unit doesn’t get balancer shaft that reduces vibration.
This new refined petrol engine is capable of churning out 95 hp of peak power and 115 Nm of peak torque. If we compare it with Honda’s 1.2-litre i-VTEC engine and Maruti Suzuki’s 1.2-litre K-Series motor, they produce 90 hp and 83 hp of power output respectively. Clearly, Ford’s engine is capable of pumping out class leading power output.

Speaking about the new transmission, this 5-speed manual gearbox is sourced from Getrag and it is codenamed as MX65. This will replace the present IB5 unit and Ford claims that the new transmission is lightweight and more accurate. Ford could introduce an AMT gearbox to the upcoming Figo range at later stage.
Upcoming Ford Figo facelift and Figo Cross are expected to carry stylish design and several appealing features. They are likely to carry a new Ford Sync 3 touchscreen infotainment system. The upcoming Figo facelift and Figo Cross have been already spotted testing in the country and they are likely to launch sometime in 2018.
