India bound Chevrolet Cruze’s engine uses a 1.6 litre turbodiesel unit, which is claimed as the ‘whispering diesel’
Volkswagen is still in trouble with its Dieselgate scam. The TDI engine has lost the faith of the diesel loyalists. This is the place where other automakers are trying to cash in. General Motors is slowing advancing toward capitalizing on the emission issue of Volkswagen TDI engines. The Chevrolet is betting big on its second generation Cruze sedan and its new turbocharged diesel engine to lure former TDI owners.
The all new Chevrolet Cruze comes with 1.6 litre turbocharged diesel engine. This engine has been already used in the Opel models in Europe, including Volkswagen’s home market Germany as well. The engine has been claimed by the American automaker as the ‘whispering diesel’. The engine churns out 136 hp of peak power and an impressive 383 Nm of peak torque.

Chevrolet is eyeing the US market with the new engine, where Volkswagen was first caught with its emission cheating scam. General Motors Vice President Mr. Dan Nicholson has clearly stated that US market is one of the few diesel growth markets in the world. He also indicated their goal to reach the diesel loyalists with the new offering. Also he sounds optimistic about their success in US with the new diesel engine.

The new generation Chevrolet Cruze is expected to launch in India sometime in early 2018. It is very likely to make appearance at the 2018 New Delhi Auto Expo. The car comes with several updates at exterior and inside the cabin. It looks absolutely aggressive and very upmarket compare to the outgoing model. The new Cruze comes 113 kilogram lighter than the present model. Therefore it delivers improved fuel economy and faster movement as well.

Dimensionally, the new Chevy Cruze comes with 99 mm of extra length, 21 mm of extra width, 6 mm of extra height and 38 mm of extra wheelbase. Though the American automaker is offering the new engine with the Cruze, but the India spec model might come retaining the same 2.0 litre diesel engine.
