Volvo S90 Launched in India at a Competitive Price of Rs 53.5 Lakh

At the Volvo S90 India launch, the luxury sedan’s fully-loaded single D4 variant has been presented with a 190 hp 2.0-litre turbo-four engine

Volvo has launched its all-new S90 flagship sedan in India, replacing the ageing S80, at an aggressive price of Rs. 53.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Considering the fact that it is brought into the country as CBU import, the pricing is as competitive as it gets. The Swedish automaker has reportedly targeted 251 pre-orders before the commencing of deliveries from December onwards.

It will rival mainly against the likes of Audi A6, BMW 5-Series, Mercedes E-Class and Jaguar XF. Based on the modular SPA platform, it will be boasting the global design language the brand has been following recently with a
sleeker front profile, a concave front grille and the now-signature Thor’s Hammer LED headlamps first witnessed on the range-topping XC90 SUV.

With ample leg, head and knee room the luxury nature is promulgated by the latest in-car features and interior styling of the Volvo’s newest generation of cars. As similar to the XC90, Volvo will be strapping the S90 with 2.0-litre diesel engine in different states of tune. But initially, the entry-level and only variant on offer is the D4 which develops 190 horsepower at 4,250 rpm and 400 Nm of peak torque delivered between 1,750 rpm and 2,500 rpm.

The Euro 6 compliant engine is linked with an eight-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels. It comes featuring three driving modes namely Eco, Comfort and Sport and has independent air-suspension on rear wheels for superior comfort. The more powerful D5 trim will possess a power output of 235 hp and 480 Nm with a standard all-wheel-drive system and is expected to join the lineup later alongside a petrol-electric hybrid engine.

The S90 sedan is the longest and widest vehicle in the top-notch luxury segment compared to Audi A6, BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. It measures 4,963 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, 1,443 mm in height and has ample wheelbase of 1,443 mm (same wheelbase as the XC90 SUV). It is brimmed with safety features like Emergency brake assist, lane keeping aid, park assist, Pirelli PZero for better grip & low tyre noise, intellisafe, collision avoiding smart braking and run-off road Mitigation.

The equipment list will comprise of important features like 1400 watts Bowers & Wilkins audio system with subwoofer, 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, multiple drive modes, four-zone climate control system, rear air suspension, Nappa leather upholstery, metal finish for engine start/stop button and a touchscreen climate-control interface for rear passengers, rotary drive selector, electric adjust front seats with memory and a powered tailgate, matte-finish wood trim across dashboard, etc.
