Hyundai will officially reveal the much awaited new Santro on October 9th and the hatchback has been spotted completely undisguised at a dealership last week. The new Santro is likely to priced from Rs. 3.6 Lakh (Ex-Showroom) for the entry-level model and Rs. 5.4 Lakh for the top end model.
The Santro might be offered in four variants – Era, Magna, Sportz and Asta. Some of the features on Asta trim are 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, steering mounted controls, electronically controlled outside mirrors, rearview camera with parking sensors, power windows, rear AC vents and more.
Hyundai is also focusing on safety features with Santro as the hatchback comes with dual airbags (one airbag on entry-level model), ABS with EBD, speed alert and reverse parking sensors. The Santro is based on revised HA platform of old i10 and the hatchback measures 3,610 mm length, 1,645 mm width and 1,560 mm height.
The Santro has a wheelbase of 2,400 mm and boot capacity is 238 L. The exterior design of Santro is based on the fluidic design philosophy of Hyundai and it took some inspirations from Grand i10. The front gets swept back headlamps with the signature grille of Hyundai and the company has given big fog lamps.
The side design follows the tall boy theme of earlier Santro and the tail lamps are also big with a similar design to the Grand i10. Overall, the exterior design will appeal to mass-market buyers. The interior gets a modern design theme as the company has given three spoke multi-function steering wheel and a new instrument cluster.
Hyundai has given black and beige colour combination for the interior and the gear lever is integrated into the centre console. The Santro will be powered by a new 1.1 L petrol engine producing 69 PS and 99 Nm, this engine is mated to a 5-speed manual and new AMT gearbox. According to ARAI, the Santro returns 20.3 kmpl.
The Santro will get 7 colour options – Marina Blue, Polar White, Stardust, Imperial Beige, Sleek Silver, Fiery Red and Diana Green. Hyundai will offer 3 years/1 lakh km standard warranty with the Santro and it will compete against Maruti Suzuki Wagon R and Renault Kwid.
