Hyundai Creta retained top position at the midsize SUV sales charts ahead of Kia Seltos, Mahindra Scorpio and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara in Jan 2023

In the first month of 2023, Hyundai’s Creta continued to be the most sold midsize SUV in the country with a total of 15,037 units against 9,869 units during the same period last year with a YoY positive sales growth of 52 per cent. The Kia Seltos also retained its second position but with a YoY drop of 9 per cent.

The Seltos was responsible for 10,470 unit sales last month as against 11,483 units in January 2022. The Mahindra Scorpio was the third most sold midsize SUV in the country as 8,715 units were registered against 3,026 units with a massive YoY surge of 188 per cent. This was due to the arrival of the Scorpio N and the rebranded Scorpio Classic.

The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara finished in the fourth position with its highest monthly sale of 8,662 units while the Mahindra XUV700 slotted in at fifth with 5,787 units as against 4,119 units during the corresponding period in 2022 with a YoY positive volume increase of 40 per cent. In the second half of the table, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder found itself in sixth position.

The Hyryder and Grand Vitara are rolled out of Toyota’s production facility in Bidadi, Karnataka and they share the platform, equipment list and powertrain options. The MG Hector received a facelift at the 2023 Auto Expo and it garnered a domestic tally of 2,441 units last month as against 2,039 units in Jan 2022 with a YoY growth of 20 per cent.

Skoda’s Kushaq finished in the eighth position with 2,013 units as against 2,608 units during the same period last year with a YoY negative growth of 23 per cent. Tata Harrier was the ninth most sold midsize SUV in India with a total of 1,472 units against 2,702 units with a YoY decline of 42 per cent.

Volkswagen Taigun rounded out the top ten with 1,455 units in Jan 2023 as against 2,432 units with a YoY de-growth of 40 per cent.
