Renault Grand Captur Could Be Under Development

Renault Captur Facelift India

Renault is likely to introduce the Grand Captur in 2019; to be produced alongside the regular Captur

Renault is expected to produce a longer variant of the Captur SUV that has garnered pretty much positive response in European market. Christened as the Renault Grand Captur, this is likely to be manufactured at the automaker’s Valladolid plant in Spain. The car is expected to arrive in the market by 2019.

Renault is supposed to launch the Grand Captur in the European market initially, considering the popularity the Captur has earned in the continent. In terms of design, the Renault Grand Captur could be slightly longer than the current model and it would feature a longer wheelbase as well offering more space to the occupants. The basic silhouette is expected to remain same as the present model.

With the launch of the Grand Captur, Renault will become the second car manufacturer in European market to sell two B-SUV models, as Opel too sells its Mokka X and Crossland X models in the continent. The French automaker is ready to invest more than 600 million Euros in its Valladolid factory in Spain for the new model and also to roll out the 1.5-litre dCi diesel engine from the facility.

Renault is attempting to increase the size of the assembly line in the factory, but the annual production capacity is expected to remain same as present. Currently, the Valladolid plant is capable of rolling out 2.50 lakh vehicles from this facility.

Meanwhile Renault is betting big on the Captur SUV in the Indian market. However, the India-spec model is much different compared to its European sibling. Despite the similar name, the European market-spec model is much premium and the Indian model misses out on several features that are considered as basic for a premium car here. As we reported earlier, Renault is hoping that Captur will boost its slowing sales in the domestic market and it will help the brand to achieve around 25,000 units of additional overall sales in 2018.
