The next generation Renault Duster built on the heavily localised CMF-B platform is expected to be launched in the 2024-25 timeframe in India

It is rumoured that Renault India plans to introduce the next generation of their Duster model in 2024 or 2025 with an estimated investment of around $500 million. This investment is expected to allow the company to expand its portfolio and bring the CMF-B platform to the domestic market with a high level of locally sourced components.

In addition to the new Duster, the French brand is also speculated to be introducing a seven-seater midsize SUV based on the Bigster concept. The flexible nature of the architecture widely used in Europe currently may also allow for the development of an electric version in the distant future as well.

Renault’s partnership with Nissan will play a major role in the development of these new models in order to achieve economies of scale. Upon arrival, the second-generation Renault Duster will compete against Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, VW Taigun and Skoda Kushaq.

The CMF-B platform will be modified for use in India and other emerging markets but the specific powertrain options that will be available on the new Duster are not known yet. Renault’s existing range is equipped with a 1.0-litre three-cylinder NA petrol and a 1.0-litre three-cyl turbo petrol mill with manual and AMT choices.

The production of the Duster came to a close nearly a year ago at its manufacturing unit in Tamil Nadu and it really set the tone for Renault by creating a premium brand image for almost a decade. Until the arrival of the next-gen Duster, Renault will more likely bring in global models via the CBU route.

Nissan India has commenced road testing the new-gen X-Trail and it will likely go on sale later this calendar year or in 2024. The upcoming India-spec Duster could make for a Nissan sibling as well. We can expect the interior to have upmarket equipment to take the fight to the modern rivals along with advanced tech pertaining to comfort, convenience and safety.
