Maruti S-Cross petrol will launch with a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine that made its debut on the Ciaz facelift, prices will likely start from Rs 7.5 lakh

Only recently, we reported that the petrol variant of the Maruti S-Cross crossover would launch early next year with a starting price of Rs 7.5 lakh. Our reliable sources inform us that the Maruti S-Cross petrol will be the most fuel-efficient petrol-powered UV in India with an ARAI-tested mileage of more than 18 kmpl.

Powering the Maruti S-Cross petrol will be the same 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine that has just made its debut on the Ciaz facelift. This engine produces a maximum power of 105 PS and a peak torque of 138 Nm, which is much more than the 94 PS and 130 Nm that was offered by the 1.4-litre engine it has replaced. Like the Ciaz facelift, the Maruti S-Cross petrol will have an SHVS mild-hybrid system.

With a claimed mileage of more than 19 kmpl, the S-Cross will become the most fuel-efficient UV in the country. The premium crossover from Maruti was first launched in 2015. Initially, it came with two engine options – 1.3-litre diesel and 1.6-litre diesel. The bigger motor was discontinued with the launch of the facelift.

Maruti S-cross petrol to be most fuel efficient petrol UV, 19 + kmpl expected

The new 1.5-litre petrol engine will soon become the second engine option for the buyers of this crossover. The Maruti S-Cross petrol will look exactly like the diesel version. Being a NEXA model, it won’t even get telltale badges. The petrol engine will be available with two transmission options – 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic.

The 1.3-litre diesel engine will remain unchanged. The VGT-equipped engine offers 90 PS and 200 Nm. It comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission. In a few months from now, Maruti will completely stop using the Fiat-sourced engine. All its diesel models, including the S-Cross, will get an ingeniously developed 1.5-litre motor that will be BS6-compliant.

We’ve been told by people working close to this project that the Maruti S-Cross facelift would have a starting price of Rs 7.5 lakh. The top-end model will cost Rs 9.99 lakh. Current, the S-Cross range starts at Rs 8.62 lakh. The fully loaded version costs Rs 11.34 lakh. Maruti Suzuki recently updated the features list of its crossover with a higher safety equipment.

All Maruti S-Cross variants get a Speed Alert Warning system that emits two beeps every sixty seconds at speeds of more than 80 kmph. At speeds higher than 120 kmph, the beep emits continuously. There’s also a seatbelt reminder for the front passenger. Furthermore, you get a Rear Parking Assist System on all the variants. The new safety features will be available even on the Maruti S-Cross Petrol.
