Maruti is betting big on the upcoming premium SUV; likely to be priced in Rs. 12 lakh – Rs. 18 lakh range

Maruti Suzuki is eyeing greater share in the highly competitive SUV segment of Indian market. In an attempt to capture a bigger share there, country’s biggest automaker is preparing to introduce a premium SUV that will lock horns with rivals like Mahindra XUV500 and Tata Hexa. The car is expected to be priced between Rs. 12 lakh and Rs. 18 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Indo-Japanese car brand is betting big on this premium SUV with inspiration from the success of its heavily popular compact SUV Vitara Brezza. As the brand says, it has already tasted success and tested its potential of making premium cars like Baleno, Ciaz in different segments. In the SUV segment too, Vitara Brezza has given the carmaker immense success. Now, the brand wants to grow bigger and this upcoming premium SUV could play key role for the company’s future growth.

Suzuki Vitara S 140Maruti Suzuki is expecting to grab the top spot in the fast growing high-margin utility vehicle segment with this upcoming premium SUV. This car is expected to arrive in domestic market sometime in late 2019 and it comes as a key part of the brand’s UV portfolio expansion strategy.

Interestingly, Maruti Suzuki has been always known as the king of small cars. But in recent times, the brand is shifting its strategy and focusing on more upmarket products. The outcome of this new strategy is the models like Baleno, Ciaz and Vitara Brezza. The fresh models are not only proving popular, they are also helping the brand to consolidate its pole position in the market.

The strategy to launch the new premium car is driven by the changed market scenario. Indian buyers are showing more interest towards premium products instead of basic cars. Auto majors like Hyundai, Honda, Toyota etc are rushing to grab sizeable chunk of market with their premium products. Hence, Maruti Suzuki being the biggest PV maker of the country doesn’t want to stay behind in the race.
