Mahindra’s September 2026 sales performance presented a mixed picture across its SUV portfolio. The Scorpio remained the company’s best-selling model with 17,313 units, while the XUV 3XO and Bolero recorded strong year-on-year growth. The Thar saw a sharper correction, with sales falling 24% compared to September last year.
Mahindra recorded combined sales of 64,092 units in September, up 14% from 56,233 units in September 2025. The reported total was also 8% higher than the 59,257 units recorded in August 2026. The Bolero’s numbers stand out. Sales climbed from 2,747 units in September last year to 9,710 units this September, an increase of 253%. That is a gain of nearly 7,000 units in a year. The SUV also improved on its August tally of 8,502 units.
The XUV 3XO had a more consistent rise, growing 20% year-on-year and 30% over August. Its 10,823 units put it comfortably ahead of the Bolero and made it Mahindra’s second-best-selling model for the month. The XUV 7XO recorded 9,097 units, down 7% year-on-year but up 7% month-on-month. It finished just 89 units ahead of the Thar, making the gap between the two models unusually close.

The Thar recorded 9,008 units, down 24% from 11,846 units a year ago. Sales also fell 11% compared with August. Its annual drop of 2,838 units was the largest absolute decline among the models listed. The Thar facelift’s launch timeline may be responsible for the steep drop as customers may have halted purchases waiting for the updated car.
Mahindra’s electric SUVs had a mixed month. The XEV 9S recorded 4,636 units, up slightly from August’s 4,508. The XEV 9e sold 1,975 units, down 25% year-on-year, while the BE 6 recorded 1,517 units, an 11% decline against both September last year and August this year.

The Scorpio continues to anchor Mahindra’s passenger vehicle volumes, even as the XUV 3XO and Bolero add to the mix. September was a strong month compared with August, but the declines in the Thar, XUV 7XO and some electric models show that the gains were not shared across the entire range.
The next few months will show whether the Bolero’s jump and the XUV 3XO’s momentum can be sustained. Thar’s sales performance is also something to watch out for as the new facelift might pick up sales thanks to its new updates.
