Mahindra’s new seven-seater SUV will be the larger variant of XUV300 (S201); to be based on SsangYong Tivoli platform

Mahindra is gearing up to introduce its new SUV XUV300 in the country soon. Codenamed as S201, this SUV will come available in two different variants. While the smaller one will be a five-seater SUV, the larger one will be a seven-seater model in line with the SsangYong Tivoli, from which the Mahindra model borrows the X100 platform.

Upon arrival, the Mahindra XUV300 will lock horns with tough rival like Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster. Also, if priced aggressively, its smaller version, the five-seater model will throw tough challenge to the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport. Mahindra XUV300’s larger variant will follow the SsangYong Tivoli Air (Tivoli XLV), which comes distinctive compared to the Tivoli with the extended rear part offering more room for luggage.

In case of the Mahindra SUV, there will be a third row seat. But unlike SsangYong Tivoli, the Mahindra SUV comes as a sub-four metre model. The automaker is likely to offer jump seats in the seven-seater SUV, as it wouldn’t want the new car to bite into Mahindra XUV500’s sales.

Expect both the smaller and larger versions of the upcoming Mahindra SUV to come equipped with several upmarket features inside the cabin in order to lure the buyers. Following the automaker’s strategy, both the models will get touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Apart from that, loads of advanced safety features are expected to be on offer.

On the powertrain front, both the upcoming Mahindra SUVs are likely to get a 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel motor, kicking pout power output of 140 hp and 125 hp respectively. Transmission options will include both manual and automatic gearbox. The smaller version is expected to be launched in mid 2018, while the larger variant could come in late 2018 or in early 2019.
