Bajaj Pulsar N250SS gets Google Maps mirroring, ETB ride modes and a revised four-valve engine kicking out more power and torque

Bajaj Auto has today announced the launch of the Pulsar N250SS in India at Rs. 1,59,406 (ex-showroom Delhi). The new quarter-litre motorcycle sits above the existing Pulsar N250 and introduces changes to the engine, transmission, electronics and instrumentation. The N250SS arrives as the latest extension of the Pulsar N-series during the nameplate’s 25th anniversary year and is part of the slew of updated models we have seen from Bajaj lately.

A new 5-inch TFT console replaces the LCD unit fitted to the N250 while Google Maps mirroring provides navigation information through the display. Bajaj has also included a quickshifter for the N250SS. The cockpit gains a USB Type-C charging port as part of the revised equipment list. The mechanical revisions centre on the four-valve engine which now develops 25 PS and 22 Nm.

The existing Pulsar N250 delivers 24.5 PS and 21.5 Nm and thus, the increases stand at 0.5 PS and 0.5 Nm respectively. A six-speed gearbox replaces the previous five-speed transmission giving the N250SS an extra ratio alongside the modest rise in output which should help in higher top speeds and better its highway capabilities.

Electronic Throttle Body technology is another key change. The ETB setup supports dedicated ride modes which operate along with the ABS modes already available on the N250. Besides these changes, the Pune-based manufacturer has also added adjustable levers, while a dedicated hazard switch is also available. Panic Brake Alert joins the safety features list and is intended to provide an additional warning to traffic behind during hard braking.

The N250SS differs from the standard N250 in several areas as opposed to relying on a single mechanical update. The regular motorcycle has a five-speed gearbox, LCD instrumentation and 24.5 PS and 21.5 Nm while the SS moves to six speeds, a TFT display with connected features and a more powerful engine. The ride modes, adjustable levers and quickshifter make for a clear differentiation between the duo.

The four colour schemes that have been presented are Atlantic Blue, Brooklyn Black, Fiery Red Orange and Pearl Metallic White. Bajaj has positioned the N250SS as the top-spec model costing around Rs. 9,000 more than the previous high-end version of the N250. Do these updates justify the price increase or will you be better off with the regular N250? Do let us know!
