German luxury carmaker Audi says is will manufacture electric vehicles from all of its plants across the world in future. Audi CEO Rupert Stadler has said it while detailing the brand’s zero emission strategy. The auto major has already in process of producing two electric cars for mass market at its Brussels plant and the labor unions are pressurizing the company to allocate EV production to Germany as well.

The Brussels plant is ready to start production of the Audi e-Tron SUV from next year and the e-Tron Sportback will enter production from 2019 at the same facility. While the Audi e-Tron will take on the Tesla Model X, the e-Tron Sportback will lock horns with Jaguar I-Pace.

Speaking about Audi’s production facilities, the luxury brand currently has plants in Hungary, Belgium and Mexico apart from two factories in its home country. Apart from that, it also shares a range of facilities with Volkswagen and Skoda to manufacture cars in several countries across the world.

In order to become a major player in the world EV market, Audi is gearing up to roll out a fleet of electrified cars that will hit the market by 2025 and among these, a dozen will be fully battery powered zero emission models. In 2020, the German company will launch a compact electric car that will be underpinned by Volkswagen AG’s Modular Electrification Platform (MEB).

As part of the Volkswagen group’s electric vehicle strategy, Audi will start producing EVs from 2021 that will be built on a new premium electric architecture co-developed by Porsche. So far, Audi is speeding up its EV strategy to salvage the image it lost along with Volkswagen due to the Dieselgate scandal. Considering India’s ambitious Mission EV 2030 plan, we can expect Audi brings its electric cars here as well. However, it is not sure, if the brand will assign EV production here.
