Audi Showcases Next-Gen Android Infotainment System at Google Conference

Audi Q8 Sport Concept Technology platform has functions like Spotify, Google Map, Google Play Music and Google Assistant

German luxury auto manufacturer Audi showcased the next generation Android infotainment system that is to be integrated to the upcoming Audi cars. The company unveils this technology the Google I/O developer conference at the tech brand’s headquarter in Mountain View, California. Showcased through the Audi Q8 Sport Concept Technology platform, this will have various new functions like Spotify, Google Play Music and Google Assistant.

Interestingly, Volvo also joined hands with Volvo and Google to develop the next generation infotainment system. Android Auto has become a must have connectivity system for more than 300 car models across the world and it is available in aftermarket stereo systems as well. Now, both the German and the Swedish luxury car brands will build Android infotainment system into the next generation models.

In case of Audi, currently the drivers can use Audi HERE map for navigation, but with the introduction of the new generation infotainment system they will be able to choose the Google Map for navigation. Also, there will be a message and call centre in the new system allowing the users to make or receive calls and SMSs right from the touchscreen infotainment system at the centre console of the car’s cabin.

Also, this new in-built Android system will allow the owners to use Google Assistant to find various informations like finding nearest restaurant, hospital, grocery store. And all of this can be done even when the smartphone won’t be there with the owner. In case of Audi, the new in-car Android system will show various informations at the virtual cockpit also.

To develop the new technology Google has already partnered with two auto majors Audi and Volvo and the new system is expected to be rolled out within next 2/3 years. In near future, other car manufacturers are also expected to adopt this technology to offer the drivers more connectivity and convenience while driving.
