The 2019 Maruti Wagon R will have an all-new design but will retain its powertrain and platform, albeit in a revised format

Maruti Suzuki is very close to launching the third generation of the Maruti Wagon R in India. Our sources inform us that the new model could launch as soon as on 23 January 2018. The 2019 Maruti Wagon R will look fresher and will be based on an updated version of the current car’s platform.

The interior is likely to be more practical as well as better equipped. The most important inclusion will be that of the SmartPlay infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.

The next generation of the extremely popular small car will look nothing like the current model. Apart from featuring a tallboy design, there won’t be any other similarity. The front-end will get a bolder design while the side profile will get larger windows and a floating-type roof. The rear of the 2019 Maruti Wagon R will offer large taillights inspired by Volvo.

The 2019 Maruti Wagon R will be safer than the current version. The updated monocoque will offer better crash protection while all the variants will offer a driver’s side front airbag, ABS, rear parking sensors, speed-sensing door lock, speed warning alert, and front seatbelt reminder.

The updated K10B petrol engine will be BSVI compliant. We are hoping that Maruti would tune the motor in such a way that it would offer an even better mileage as well as slightly higher performance. Currently, this engine produces a maximum power of 67 bhp and a peak torque of 90 Nm. The current transmission options, which are the 5-speed MT and AMT units, will be retained.

The new 2019 Maruti Wagon R will rival the recently launched new generation Hyundai Santro. Interestingly, even the new-gen Santro has a touchscreen infotainment system that offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Hence, having a similar unit in the new Wagon R should work in Maruti Suzuki’s favour.
