The 2018 Amaze has become a pivotal player in Honda’s volume aspiration by consistently posting record sales since its market entry

Honda’s India division is riding on a wave of momentum ever since the new generation Amaze was introduced in the market a few months ago. Last month, the Japanese manufacturer, endured two percent fall YoY growth but it did not deter the sales of the new Amaze as it continues to shine above the rest of the models in the portfolio.

The Amaze continued its auspicious sales run by staying put in the top 10 selling charts at the tenth position in August 2018 with 9,644 units. This has been the third consecutive month for the subcompact sedan to feature among the top 10 best-sellers in the country and is showing no signs of slowing down either.

The Amaze rose to prominence in no time and dethroned City by setting the record for highest individual sales by a Honda vehicle ever in India at 10,180 units in July 2018. After making an impactful debut at the 2018 Auto Expo in February, Honda introduced 2018 Amaze in mid-May at an attractive price bracket.

It competes against segment-leading Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Tigor, Ford Aspire and Volkswagen Ameo. Retailed in as much as 12 variants, the Amaze costs from Rs. 5.6 lakh for the entry-level E and goes up to Rs. 9 lakh for the V AT top-spec version (both prices, ex-showroom).

Part of the Honda Amaze’s sudden rise to the top is due to the comprehensively revised exterior in the new version as the rather underwhelming face was ditched to make way for a brand new design language in line with the global models. In May 2018, Honda achieved sales of more than 9,700 units of the new Amaze, followed by 9,103 deliveries in June and 10,180 units in July 2018.

The Amaze uses the proven 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel powertrains. The former develops 89 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 110 Nm at 4,800 rpm while the latter pumps out 99 bhp at 3,600 rpm and 200 Nm at 1,750 rpm. The first-in-segment diesel CVT is another USP of the latest Honda Amaze.
