2017 Nissan Micra comes with minor interior revisions but has several added features; powertrain remains the same
Nissan introduced the Micra hatchback in India back in July 2010 and it was the first locally manufactured product at Oragadam near Chennai to focus on the first-time buyer’s volume space from the brand. Based on the Type-V platform, the Micra has done a good job in having the Japanese manufacturer’s name established in the country. However, as years passed and its badge-engineered cousin, the Renault Pulse, came into the fray the sales has seen gradual reduction.
Over the last 12 months, the sales witnessed a slump to an average of below 500 units. It is understandable considering the lack of updation through its lifespan and the increased competition in the compact car segments with the arrival of new products. We were disappointed when reporting earlier that the all-new generation of Micra launched last year would not be coming anytime soon to India.

With a complete new exterior and interior upgrades it was a more of a ‘premium hatchback’ based on the global CMF-B platform. The segment which saw boom in recent years due to the introduction of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the Hyundai Elite i20.
With the hope that it could launch in the coming years, the new MY2017 model that has been made available to buy across all Nissan showrooms in India from June 2 cannot be undermined either as it has improvements on the interior as well as features front. It is essentially the Micra of what we know with more tech involved. However, the Micra Active with petrol manual transmission has received a new bumper and steering wheel with Audi controls and Bluetooth connectivity.
