The MWT-9 is claimed by the company as a cornering master that focusses primarily on sport riding; will be based on Yamaha MT-09 streetfighter
Three wheeled motorcycles are something that have become quite familiar to us especially in the last few years. The Piaggio MP3 is possibly the first three wheeled vehicle that was promoted as more of an inter city commute scooter and come with bold appearance. The 500cc three wheeler seemed to present a benchmark in the respective territory. Now, Yamaha looks all set to challenge the aforementioned scoot with its three wheeled motorcycle.
Yamaha has named its three wheeler bike concept as the MTW-9 and it was first teased by the company a couple of years back. The MWT-9 will come based on the company’s MT-09 streetfighter and hence, it will carry the same engine that runs the latter. Having said that, expect the Yamaha MWT-9 to draw its power from an 850cc, inline three cylinder engine, that churns out 113 bhp of power and 88 Nm of torque in the MT-09. Needless to say, the power and torque figures in the MWT-9 will be different in order to take care of the extra wheel.
Regarding the Yamaha MWT-9, the company says that this leaning multi wheel (LMW) concept model proposes a new type of category in the realm of sport riding. Under the development concept of a cornering master, the MWT-9 mounts a three cylinder 850cc engine on a seamless and dynamically styled body.
In terms of styling indeed, the Yamaha MWT-9 looks like a bold move by the company and it is quite challenging for the company to actually make it to the production lines. Now, what remains to be seen is that how close does the MWT-9 reaches the sport riding and cornering master claims by Yamaha. However, one thing which is sure is that the Yamaha MWT-9 will have a solid on road presence.
More details about this vehicle will be unwrapped at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show. Besides the MWT-9, Yamaha will have a bunch of other interesting concepts to showcase that include the Motobot, Motoroid and MWC-4.
