Xiaomi SU7 will compete with Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan and it has a claimed driving range of up to 800 km on a single charge

The first electric car from tech giant Xiaomi, known as the SU7, has been officially unveiled and it measures a length of 4,997 mm and has a wheelbase of 3,000 mm. The electric sedan will act as a direct rival to the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan and has a low drag co-efficient of 0.195. It will be available in multiple configurations and variants namely V6, V6s and V8s.

The base variants are equipped with a single electric motor producing close to 300 PS and 400 Nm and it drives the rear axle only. The zero to 100 kmph acceleration time stands at 5.28 seconds. The entry-level trim is restricted to 400 V and has a claimed driving range of 668 km courtesy of a large 73.6 kWh battery pack.

The high-spec trims support 800 V architecture and thus they can reach 220 km in just five months and 390 km range will be achieved in ten minutes utilising a fast charger. The twin electric motor setup, one driving each axle, enables a combined power output of 673 PS and the zero to 100 kmph time stands at 2.78 seconds before reaching a top speed of 265 kmph.

The 101 kWh battery pack helps in achieving 800 km claimed range on a single charge – more than the Model S. The interior has less use of physical buttons and most of the operations centre around the 16.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system while the instrument console is also fully digital and there are twin large tablet-like entertainment screens for the rear occupants.

Considering Xiaomi’s tech expertise, it comes as no surprise that the SU7 is loaded with assistive features and autonomous systems. The prices of the electrified sedan will be revealed in the coming months and it will be sold in several international markets including China. The front fascia takes inspiration from McLaren’s supercars and the bodywork is smooth and flowing.
