The CNG bike from Bajaj Auto is expected to go on sale in the coming months and it will be the first in the industry

Bajaj Auto, which is based out of Chakan and India’s top motorcycle exporter, will unveil its new CNG bike by the next quarter and consequently has plans to gradually ramp up the offering in the CNG segment. Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director of the company told “We are actually preponing the CNG motorcycle launch to the next quarter,” in an interaction with CNBC-TV18.

“We believe that a CNG motorcycle should appeal to consumers at each of these displacements points (100cc, 125cc and 150-160cc) and that gives us the opportunity to build a portfolio, as against just one motorcycle,” said Rajiv Bajaj when he was asked a question on ambitions of having a lineup of two-wheelers that run on CNG. This will be the first initiative globally, Bajaj added, to package a CNG cylinder in a motorcycle. When asked about the company’s progress in general, Rajiv Bajaj stated “We are launching products almost every fortnight”.

He also shared interesting information about the electric variant of the iconic Chetak brand of scooters, which he said is witnessing robust year-on-year monthly growth of 3-5 times in any given month. The company has plans to launch a new Chetak offering in the next quarter and Rajiv Bajaj expressed aspirations to double production to 20,000 Chetaks per month by the next quarter.

Talking about the newly launched Triumph motorcycles, Rajiv Bajaj said the company is gearing up to deliver up to 10,000 Triumph motorcycles a month by the festive season and is expanding its capacity to produce 30,000 units in a quarter. He also confirmed that for the time being, all Triumph offerings will remain in the 400-cc displacement only.

Finally, coming down to the Pulsar range of motorcycles, he gave us a small hint that the launch of the biggest Pulsar yet is also inching closer and highlighted the company’s focus on something that he calls as ‘super-segmentation rather than premiumization’.

This is to clearly forge a difference between the multiple brands for which Bajaj also manufactures the motorcycles. That being said, we are happy to see an improvement in build quality throughout all the models and category of motorcycles coming out from that manufacturing plant.
