Volkswagen Taigun Trail Edition gets visual updates over the standard model and is based on the GT trim

Volkswagen India has today introduced the Trail Edition of the Taigun in the domestic market and is priced at Rs. 16,29,900 (ex-showroom). Based on the GT trim, the Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition was announced back in April 2023 and it carries a slight premium over the regular GT variant. Despite carrying the Trail moniker, it does not get any specific off-road gear as the changes will be limited to the exterior.

The Volkswagen GT Edge Trail Edition gets newly designed 17-inch black alloy wheels, a Trail badge on the bootlid, contrast red brake callipers, and new decals on the fenders and pillars while a functional roof rail has also been added as you can see in the teaser. Inside the cabin, the German auto major will introduce a new black leatherette seat upholstery with red stitching and ‘Trail’ embossment.

VW offers the GT Edge Trail Edition of the Taigun in three colours namely Candy White, Deep Black Pearl and Carbon Steel Grey. Since it is based on the GT trim, features such as a ten-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, automatic headlights, TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System), reverse parking camera and so on.

With no mechanical changes, the special edition continues to use the 1.5L four-cylinder TSI turbo petrol engine, which is good enough to produce a maximum power output of 150 PS and 250 Nm of peak torque. The powertrain is mated to a six-speed manual transmission as standard while a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic unit is an option.

Back in April, Volkswagen also unveiled the Taigun Sport Edition and it will likely make its way to showrooms in the coming months as well. The midsize SUV segment is more competitive than it has ever been and recently, the facelifted Kia Seltos was introduced and the Harrier and Safari duo gained big updates inside and out.

In early 2024, the facelifted Hyundai Creta will also be launched as the segment will see plenty of action over the next couple of years.
