The applicant association of vintage car owners must contribute to preserving the environment via tree plantation

Vintage car enthusiasts and owners have faced a shy of relief as the National Green Tribunal on Monday has ruled them eligible to be on the roads. They are exempted from the vehicle ban of 15 years of age and above and will be allowed on exhibitions, rallies and maintenance. Another thing is that the applicant association of vintage car owners must contribute to preserving the environment via tree plantation and issuing dustbins.

NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar has stated that the vintage cars complying with the devised regulations under the Motor Vehicles Act would be eligible to run on the roads. Back in November 2014, the tribunal issues a ban of 15-year-old vehicle from plying on Delhi roads and it included vintage cars as they were hampered from participating in any kind of rally.

Luckily they have been exempted as the National Green Tribunal decided to stick by the Rule 92 (2)(c) of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules 1989 and Section 59 of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988 to give permission to antique motor vehicles. However, the vintage cars that do not adhere by the “prescribed norms” will not be allowed on the Delhi roads.

The applicant association should be socially responsive and contribute towards environment for improving the ambient air quality of Delhi. The new order has come as a result of a plea filed by Heritage Motoring Club of India as its president and senior advocate KTS Tulsi sought an exemption from the rule.

Many vintage motoring associations around the country have indeed welcomed the order as the antique vehicles would bravely hustle on the Delhi roads without any restriction. Delhi authorities have been put under immense pressure to curb the soaring health hazards due to increasing air pollution in the city and several steps are being considered to improve the purity of air.
