2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 gets visual updates, mechanical changes and a larger battery pack offering higher claimed driving range

Hyundai has upgraded the Ioniq 5 alongside introducing the new Ioniq 5 N Line in the international markets. The EV boasts a larger battery pack of 84 kWh capacity as opposed to 77.4 kWh translating to a significant increase in its range. The exterior comprises a polished V-shape garnish and redesigned front and rear bumpers.

The 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 now measures 4,655 mm in length, an increase of 20 mm, while maintaining a width at 1,890 mm, height at 1,605 mm and wheelbase at 3,000 mm. The rear spoiler has been extended by 50 mm and the new wheels help in improved aerodynamic performance. In the centre console, the upper part now features a physical button that can operate frequently used functions.

They are the first-row heated and ventilation seats, heated steering wheel and parking assist. Also, the smartphone wireless charging pad has been relocated to the upper part and a new steering wheel design with interactive pixel lights has been introduced. The overall arrangement of infotainment and AC controls has been improved as well.

The South Korean auto major has implemented a new infotainment system called connected car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) while features like wireless Over-The-Air (OTA) software updates, new safety features like Hands-On Detection (HOD) steering wheel, Lane Keeping Assist 2, Remote Smart Parking Assist 2 (RSPA 2), and Forward/Side/Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (PCA-F/S/R) are also present.

The equipment list also comprises eight airbags, Intelligent Front-Lighting System (IFS), Digital Key 2, Built-In Cam 2 and second-row seat remote folding. For improved rideability and comfort, the new Hyundai Ioniq 5 gets a shock absorber while the cowl crossbar rigidity has been increased for reduced steering wheel vibration and reinforcements have been doubled for the rear wheel and lower portion of the vehicle.

To mitigate low-frequency booming noise, the stiffness of the vehicle body has been fortified, and optimization of motor noise control has been implemented. Furthermore, additional sound insulation has been incorporated for the rear wheel motor to elevate overall quietness. Prioritising safety, enhancements have been made to reinforce the body, front and rear doors, and B-pillar components, augmenting side collision protection.

As for the new Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Line, a bolder, sportier aesthetic with distinct front and rear designs featuring unique bumpers, sleek side skirts and a set of exclusive 20-inch aluminium wheels are presented. It will be positioned below the performance-based Ioniq 5 N and gets a N Line steering wheel and dashboard, N Line exclusive metal pedals, black headliner, sport seats with the N logo, red contrast stitching and two seat covering options.

The 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 5 N Line can be bought in Korea from this month and it will reach other global markets in the due course of this year and we will have to wait and see when it will come to India.
