Tata Motors is currently working on its flagship model codenamed as the H5X. It is a SUV and the test mule of the vehicle has been already spied testing on Indian roads. Interesting fact is that, the automaker has designed the H5X as a global model focusing to sell it in several overseas markets. As we have already reported, the Tata H5X is built on the same floor pan of the Land Rover Discovery. Also, it will carry some similarity with the Tata Hexa as well.
Not only the platform, but Tata H5X SUV also shares several other elements with the British luxury SUV. As Tata Motors is focusing on premium offerings in recent time, the upcoming flagship SUV will also arrive adopting the same philosophy. The design of the SUV is also pretty similar to the Land Rover Discovery. Talking about the platform, the L550 is a very lightweight and rigid platform. It will enable the SUV to come with improved fuel efficiency and with better handling also.
The front fascia of the SUV will sport projector headlamps, Discovery Sport like front grille and bonnet. At the side profile, the Tata Q501 will come featuring sporty alloy wheels, turn indicator integrated ORVMs, sharp character lines and black cladding. While the SUV is expected to be muscular, the sleek tone will surely be there. A fully black rear pillar will give the SUV’s rear fascia a full glassy look, while the integrated roof spoiler will enhance sportiness. The LED insert at taillight will increase the premium appeal, while a black bumper will make it muscular.
Tata Motors will leave no stone unturned to make it a premium and very attractive offering. In an attempt to do so, the Q501 SUV will appear with high quality design and material inside the cabin. It will arrive with a multifunction steering wheel, twin-pod instrument cluster, a sharp and squarish looking centre console with touchscreen infotainment system. The touchscreen infotainment system will surely enhance the premium appeal of the SUV. In terms of space and comfort, the car will surely come impressive.
Like the Land Rover Discovery Sport, the Tata Q501 will also get Terrain Management System. With this, the SUV will be able to take on the challenge of the rough roads easily. Power source for the Tata Q501 will be a Fiat sourced 2.0-litre Multijet II diesel engine, instead of Jaguar Land Rover’s 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel unit.
It will produce 170 bhp of peak power and 370 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duty will be done by a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed automatic unit will be there as well. The SUV will be available in both 2WD and AWD options. Upon arrival, it will challenge the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour.
