Toyota to debut its first electric SUV, based on the Urban SUV concept, in 2025. Here are all the details we know so far about this upcoming e-SUV

Toyota is gearing up to enter the Indian electric vehicle market with its first electric SUV, expected to hit showrooms in September-October 2025, i.e., in the second half of 2025. This debutante EV is anticipated to follow six months after the release of Maruti’s eVX, sharing the same platform but showcasing Toyota’s unique design direction for its electric offerings.

Toyota’s entry into the Indian electric vehicle sector will mark a milestone for the automaker, introducing a futuristic midsize electric SUV that aims to redefine the landscape. The Urban SUV concept, initially unveiled late last year, serves as a sneak peek into Toyota’s vision for sustainable mobility. This electric SUV is destined to captivate the market with its distinctive features and design.

The Urban SUV concept boasts dimensions that align closely with its Maruti counterpart, measuring 4,300mm in length, 1,820mm in width, and 1,620mm in height, with a 2,700mm long wheelbase. However, Toyota’s electric offering is poised to stand out with its design flair, featuring edgy surfaces, C-shaped LED daytime running lamps, and a rugged SUV silhouette that exudes a contemporary aesthetic.

Underpinning this electric endeavour is the 27PL skateboard platform, a modular base manufactured by Maruti Suzuki in India. Emphasizing localization, this platform allows for efficient production while catering to both domestic and export markets. Toyota is set to introduce two battery pack options, providing consumers with a choice between a 60kWh unit boasting a range of approximately 550 km and an entry-level variant equipped with a 48kWh battery pack targeting around 400 km of range.

The midsize electric SUV from Toyota is not merely about style and design; it packs substance with a promise of spacious interiors, plush comfort, and a comprehensive suite of features. With an emphasis on flexibility and technology integration, the vehicle is anticipated to offer a delightful driving experience.
