Toyota to introduce sporty high performance hybrid cars in order to boost sales of eco-friendly vehicles

Toyota is aiming to increase its hybrid car range in the coming years. Also, the Japanese auto giant is planning at introducing sportier and high performance models with eco-friendly powertrains. The auto major will start expanding its hybrid range with more powerful and sportier models from next year.

The strategy has been announced by the Toyota Motor Europe CEO Johan Van Zyl at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, during the unveiling of Toyota C-HR Hy-Power concept. This design study concept shows how the sporty high performance crossover can be powered by a hybrid powertrain. Interestingly, the Toyota C-HR hybrid could make its way in Indian market as well.

Toyota has received pretty good response with its hybrid products in Europe. Around 40% of its total sales in the continent is attributed to the hybrid models, while in Western Europe the number is close to 50%. For instance, Toyota Auris is sold with two petrol engines, two diesel engines and a hybrid variant is also there. The hybrid model accounts for 60% of the total sales for this car.

As Toyota hinted at the Frankfurt event, it is mulling the possibility of introducing multiple hybrid powertrains to its products that will offer the customer options to choose from. The company initially targets the most popular models for the introduction of the hybrid powertrains. As the world auto market is thriving towards adopting environment friendly powertrain options, Toyota is aiming to grab sizeable chunk in that segment and introducing hybrid powertrains will give the brand that chance only.

Speaking about India, Toyota is one of the major players in the hybrid segment of country’s auto market. The Camry has already earned respect in the domestic market, while the Prius Prime too grabbed attention of the buyers. The automaker is expected to introduce more models here with greener powertrain.
