The new Santro is off to a good start as the company has received more than 40,000 bookings and the hatchback comes with some segment first features

Hyundai finally introduced the much awaited new Santro in October and the model has been very received by the customers as the only thing common between the new model and its predecessor is the name. The Santro has already entered the top 10 sales chart in its first month and here are the top 5 things you should know about the new Santro

1. Platform and Dimensions

The Santro is based on the K1 platform, which is derived from the B.A platform of Grand i10. But the company has made so many changes for the platform to meet the upcoming safety standards. The Santro uses 63 per high strength steel to make the body stronger. The new hatchback measures 3,610 mm length, 1645 mm width and 1560 mm height while the wheelbase is 2,400 mm. The boot space is 235 litres.

2. All New Design

Hyundai has given an all-new design theme for the Santro as the new model has retained the tall boy theme from its predecessor. The front gets signature grille of Hyundai along with swept-back headlamps and the design is similar to Grand i10 while the fog lamps are placed higher on the body. The side design is simple and the designers have given character lines while the rear gets new tail lamps and a new bumper also.

3. Feature Packed Interior

The hatchback comes with a premium design theme for the interior as the quality of materials are really good and the dashboard is finished in black and beige colour. The interior is loaded with segment first features like touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, reverse camera with parking sensors, rear AC vents, dual airbags, ABS and EBD.

4. Engine

Hyundai is offering Santro with a new 1.1 petrol engine producing 69 PS of power at 5,500 rpm and 99 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm. This engine is mated to a 5-speed manual and the Santro is the first product from the company to come with AMT transmission. The claimed mileage of Santro is 20.3 kmpl for both manual and auto. The Santro is also available with a CNG engine with 59 PS and 84 Nm.

5. Price

The Santro is available in five variants – D-Lite, Era, Magna, Sportz and Asta. The automatic is only offered on Magna and Sportz variant. The entry-level model is priced at Rs. 3.89 lakh while the top-end model at Rs. 5.49 lakh while the automatic is priced at Rs. 5.18 for Magna and Rs. 5.46 lakh (all prices, Ex-Showroom)
