Top 10 Selling Hatchbacks in May 2017

Kwid Climber 1

Top 10 selling hatchbacks in May 2017 list repeated the domination of Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai models while Kwid and Tiago showed their consistent sales

As we have known already, the huge advantage Maruti Suzuki has in the Indian market is its wide presence in the entry level segments from the small hatchback space to vehicles in 10 lakh slab. The variety of hatchbacks stands in confirmation with its list of bestselling models. In the fifth month of 2017, Maruti Suzuki’s five notorious hatchbacks have featured in the top ten and unsurprisingly it was the regular leader Alto that took the charge ahead of the rest.

It was a complete mix up in the top three compared to April when Swift was topping Alto and Baleno. In May 2017, Alto took the charge from Swift and WagonR, thereby restoring the usual run. Looking at the whole list, it is easy to get carried away with the fact that Maruti and Hyundai hatchbacks earned nine positions but there are still loads of hope in sales for the new hatchbacks as well.

For instance, Tata Motors and Renault’s two most sold vehicles in the domestic market in recent times are Tiago and Kwid respectively. The Tiago arrived with fresh styling, fuel-efficient powertrains and good features sticking by the trend. With the SUV-esque body and a feature-brimmed interior, the global CMF-A platform based Kwid can be attributed with all the success Renault attained in the Indian market.

Both these hatchbacks followed the same strategy by trying to become VFM in their respective range and they have indeed succeeded thus far. While the Tiago did make it to top 10 last month, Kwid also continued its strong form with 6,990 units at seventh position. Hyundai Eon has always had roller-coaster sales but it’s still the next best seller for the Korean brand behind the i twins and Creta SUV and it was placed ninth as 5,330 examples were retailed.
