Top 10 selling cars in September 2017 witnessed Maruti Dzire holding its stead at the leading position ahead of Alto
Maruti Suzuki finished September 2017 how it wanted to as the best-selling chart saw its dominance once again with a familiar face right up on top. It is not the entry-level Alto hatchback again though as the new Dzire secured leading position with phenomenal sales for the second month running. With YoY growth rate of 81 percent, the new-gen Dzire garnered 34,305 unit sales and it is likely to hold its place in the market going forward.
It has not come as a surprise to many and showed the expanded ability of Maruti Suzuki with its vast retail chain as the brand attained 49.4 percent market share. Helping Maruti to endure 9.6 percent YoY growth was the ever-popular Alto that stood second ahead of Baleno and WagonR as the tall hatch overtook Vitara Brezza.

The Baleno endured a dramatic improvement in recent months and it waves the flag for Nexa with 16,238 examples being sold last month and has started to quite comprehensively beat its main rival Hyundai Elite i20 in the premium hatchback segment. The latter was positioned eighth as in August 2017, three places below its cousin the Grand i10 as the two bestselling Hyundai vehicles registered 11,574 and 14,099 units respectively.
The WagonR is another long-running model for Maruti Suzuki that set the cash registers ringing at fourth place with 14,649 unit sales. With a next-gen model expected only in the near future, consistent monthly sales numbers would keep the momentum going in its favour. The Vitara Brezza compact SUV didn’t give up its segment-leading status and took seventh with 13,268 units.
While the much anticipated new iteration of Swift would bring worry for competing manufacturers sometime next year, the existing version is a stalemate in the top 10. It recorded 13,193 units last month to finish seventh and elsewhere Hyundai Creta and Renault Kwid rounded out the bottom two positions with 9,292 and 9,099 units respectively.
