Maruti Suzuki Alto finished on top of the hatchback sales table in the month of October 2022 ahead of its Wagon R and Swift siblings

In the month of October 2022, Maruti Suzuki Alto finished on top of the passenger vehicle sales charts courtesy of the arrival of the new generation K10. The entry-level hatchback garnered a total of 21,260 unit sales last month against 17,389 units during the same period last year with a YoY volume increase of 22 per cent.

The Wagon R has been impressive by posting consistent sales tally and last month, 17,945 units were registered against 12,335 units during the corresponding period in 2021 with a YoY growth of 45 per cent. The Swift compact hatch finished in the third position with 17,231 unit sales against 9,180 units in October 2021 with a YoY surge of 88 per cent.

The Baleno was the fourth most sold hatchback in the country last month as 17,149 units were recorded against 15,573 units during the same period twelve months ago with a YoY growth of 10 per cent. The premium hatch received a major update earlier this year with a host of visual changes and a brand new interior with new tech and features.

The updates have paid off as the Baleno is performing well in sales. The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios finished in the fifth position with 8,855 unit sales against 6,042 units during the same period last year with a YoY volume increase of 47 per cent. In the second half of the table, the i20 slotted in at sixth with a domestic tally of 7,814 units.

This when compared to the same period in 2021 with 4,414 units, a YoY sales growth 77 per cent was noted. Tata Motors had two hatchbacks finish within the top ten as the Tiago took the seventh position ahead of its sibling, the Altroz. The former posted 7,187 units against 4,040 units with positive volume growth of 78 per cent.

The latter managed a total of 4,770 units against 5,128 units in October 2021 with a YoY drop of 7 per cent. The Maruti Suzuki Ignis finished in the ninth position while the Celerio rounded out the top ten.
