The bigger, more intimidating version of the Mahindra Thar will be launching soon and here are 10 features that it gets over the smaller Thar 3-door

Based on the below list, you can see that the Mahindra Thar 5-door gets more safety, comfort and convenience features which should help justify the higher price you will be paying and stay updated to market standards when compared to its rivals.

1. Sunroof

It may not be a full panoramic unit, but the test mules were spotted with a single pane sunroof which is something that was not available on the 3-door version even as an option. It is a growing trend to see sunroof on almost all vehicles above 10 lakh and having one on a premium lifestyle off-roader does make sense.

2. Dual-Zone AC

The 3-door version was available with only auto climate control but not a dual-zone feature which is also seen on other Mahindra premium SUVs like the XUV700 and Scorpio N. The 5-door Thar also comes with rear AC vents which is missing on the current 3-door model.

3. Rear Disc Brakes

This safety feature is something that was expected on the 3-door version itself as it was spotted on a few test mules of the 3-door Thar but now Mahindra seems to have equipped it on the 5-door version. This does make sense owing to the additional weight of the larger Thar and would inspire more confidence.

4. Larger Touchscreen Unit

The 5-door Thar will be getting a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit which was recently introduced on the Mahindra XUV400 EV, and it comes with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This is an upgrade compared to the 7-inch touchscreen system which has an older version of wired smartphone connectivity available on the current gen Thar.

5. Digital Instrument Cluster

Another modern feature that the 5-door Thar will be getting from the XUV400 EV is the 10.25-inch digital driver display. The 3-door version gets an analogue setup with a coloured MID in the centre.

6. Electric Fuel Lid Opener

The current gen Thar has a minor design flaw when it comes to the fuel lid opener because it needs to be opened using the key. Mahindra seems to have listened to customer suggestions (or complaints) and will be adding an electrically operated fuel lid opener for which the button will be placed on the control panel situated on the right side of the steering wheel.

7. Reversing Camera With Front Parking Sensors

The 5-door Thar will be getting a reversing camera which is both a safety as well as a convenience feature considering the size of the SUV. It will also get front parking sensors which were missing on the 3-door version.

8. Rear Centre Armrest

The rear centre armrest was missing on the 3-door version because there were only 2 seats at the back which meant no usable space for an armrest in the middle. But the 5-door Thar will get a bench seat in the second row and adding the rear centre armrest will be a minor but very useful feature.

9. 6 Airbags

The current 3-door version gets only 2 airbags at the front while the upcoming 5-door Thar will be equipped with up to 6 airbags. This might be offered as standard considering the upcoming safety kit mandate by the government.

10. 360-Degree Camera

Last but not least, the upcoming 5-door Thar will be getting a 360-degree camera which will not only help squeeze through tight parking spaces but also prove helpful while taking it off-road through uncharted territory.
