Tesla Model 3 Rival From Volvo To Debut At 2019 Geneva Motor Show

Polestar is working on its second model which is going to compete against Tesla Model 3 and it will make its global debut at 2019 Geneva Motor Show.

Polestar is the performance sub-brand of Volvo and company revealed its first model Polestar 1 last year. The Swedish maker already confirmed that Polestar brand will offer pure EV models, while Volvo will offer EV’s but only as variant just like current model with option of petrol or diesel engine.

The Polstar 1 is priced at a premium and it can’t be accessed by mass. Now the company is working on its second model Polestar 2 to take on Tesla Model 3 and it will be priced less compared to Polestar 1, which will help the brand to get more reach. The Polestar 2 will make its global debut at 2019 Geneva Motor Show.

According to Evo, the upcoming model will be based on Volvo’s Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) and it will come with an all new design theme which will make the model stand out from its competitors. The EV will be focused towards performance and handling, Polestar will give Ohlins suspension and Akebono braking system.

The company hasn’t given details about power output but Tesla Model 3 can achieve 0-100 kph in 3.5 sec and top speed is 225 kph. The Model 3 with four wheel drive system will give better traction and this help 0-100 dash to be completed in 4.5 sec and top speed is 233 kph. We can expect Polestar 2 to offer similar performance.

Polestar 2 is expected to give 499 km range between charges and this is impressive considering performance. The main competitor of Polestar 2 also offers similar range and Tesla is offering a performance version of Model 3, which can hit 0-100 kph in 3.5 sec and top speed is limited to 250 kph but Polestar is yet to confirm whether they will introduce performance variant.

Polestar 1 electric performance hybrid powertrain produces 600 hp of power and 1000 Nm of torque. The rear wheels are powered by two electric motors, while the front gets power from 2.0 L 4 cylinder Drive-E engine. But Polestar 1 is based on Volvo’s SPA platform and it will be launched by middle of 2019.
