The Tata Nexon has been a direct competitor to Ford EcoSport and Maruti Vitara Brezza, Last month, its sales surpassed those of the Ford offering but fell much short of Brezza

The Tata Nexon has once again managed to outsell the Ford EcoSport. In the month of September 2018, the Blue Oval sold 3,789 units of its compact SUV in India. On the other hand, Ford Motor Company managed to overtake the EcoSport by a huge margin and sold 4,297 units. In comparison, the Maruti Vitara Brezza, which has been the highest selling compact SUV, found 14,425 units.

It is noteworthy here that sales of both Ford EcoSport and Maruti Vitara Brezza have remained quite flat since a long time now. On the other hand, the Tata Nexon, which is the newest among the three, has often managed to overtake the Ford EcoSport.

The dynamics of the compact SUV market could change with the launch of the Hyundai Styx next year but until now, there has been a tough fight between the Tata Nexon and the Ford EcoSport. The duo is expected to remain lo ked in a battle until there is a new entry in the segment.

We believe that the Tata Nexon does have a small edge over the Ford EcoSport. It has an AMT automatic option for both petrol and diesel engine variants. In comparison, you can only buy the 1.5-litre petrol variant of the Ford EcoSport with an automatic transmission. Also, the Tata offering is a more spacious model. The Tata Nexon is also slightly cheaper.

The turbo-petrol motor outputs a maximum power of 108 bhp and 170 Nm. The diesel motor, on the other hand, outputs 108 bhp and 260 Nm. Both the motors are mated to a six-speed manual transmission as standard and a 6-speed AMT as optional.

On the other hand, the Ford EcoSport is available with three engine options – 1.5-litre petrol, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, and 1.0-litre turbo-diesel. The bigger petrol engine offers 120 Bhp-150 Nm but the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol is available with 125 Bhp-170 Nm. The diesel engine offers 89 Bhp-215 Nm.

All the motors come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission as standard while the bigger petrol engine is also available with an optional 6-speed torque converter automatic.
