Tata Harrier SUV – Top 5 Things You Should Know

Tata Motors will launch the Harrier SUV soon and it will rival directly against the likes of Creta, XUV500 and the Jeep Compass

There is no doubt in the fact that Tata Motors has played all their cards right behind the development and designing of the Harrier SUV. The model made its first appearance at the 2018 Auto expo where it caught a lot of attention.

The SUV will be launched here towards the first half the year 2019 and it will rival against the likes of the Mahindra XUV500, Hyundai Creta and the Jeep Compass. Now that Tata Motors has dropped a lot of hints about this soon to be launched SUV here are the top 5 things you should know about the Tata Harrier.

1. Exterior styling inspired by the H5X concept

As promised by Tata Motors, Head of Design, Mr. Pratap Bose, the Harrier takes 85 percent of its styling inspiration from the H5X concept. The sleek looking LED daytime running lamps on the top, the headlamps positioned just above the front bumper is something which you have never actually seen before in a Tata car.

Just like the front profile the rear profile too features sharp LED taillamps which looks to have been inspired from petals and are conjoined by a Black Blacked out strip which looks equally well.  The SUV is based on the company’s Impact  Design 2.0 philosophy and it not only looks big but stylish and sharp as well from every angle.

2. Fiat Sourced Engine

Tata Motors have used a Fiat-sourced 2.0-liter diesel, 4-cylinder diesel engine under the hood of the Harrier which also powers the Jeep Compass SUV as well. Although the 2.0 Liter unit produces around 170 bhp on the Jeep Compass but this unit has been de-tuned to generate 140 Bhp of peak power on the Harrier.

The engine is termed ‘Kryotec’, by Tata Motors which has been inspired by the reliable cryogenic rocket engine. The engine will be paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox, while it will also get an automatic transmission as well later.

3. Uses Land Rovers Omega Arc Platform

The SUV underpins Land Rovers Omega arc platform which also underpins the Discovery Sport. It even borrows some other parts like the floor panels and suspension from the premium SUV.

While steel has been used in place of aluminum to reduce the overall cost. What is even surprising is also the fact that the Harrier SUV also gets 2,741 mm wheelbase which is identical to that of Land Rover Discovery Sport.

4. Well equipped interior

The Harrier SUV gets a pretty loaded interior, to begin with, it features a push-button start, steering mounted controls, a large touchscreen infotainment system, front and rear armrest with cup holders, and rear AC vents.

Unfortunately, Tata Motors have omitted the sunroof feature from the SUV. The Harrier also gets auxiliary isolation panels which will ensure a quiet and premium cabin experience. 5.
