Skoda Rapid Gets Four Airbags In Its Top-End Style Trim

Skoda has upped the safety of Rapid Style trim by adding front side airbags along with the already existing dual front airbags

Skoda Rapid has received two extra airbags in its top-end Style trim. The midsize sedan was launched in November 2016 with dual front airbags and now, the Czech auto manufacturer has added two front side airbags in the Style trim of the car enhancing its safety level. On the pricing front, Skoda Rapid Style trim is priced between Rs. 10.61 lakh and Rs. 13.57 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).

In order to make the car much more appealing, Skoda has previously updated the model with 16-inch alloy wheels and a reverse parking camera in April last year. Now, addition of two extra airbags will certainly enhance its appeal further. Skoda Rapid is positioned in a segment that is considered as one of the most competitive category of Indian car market.

The midsize sedan rivals with competitors like Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna and Honda City. Despite being updated with a fresh styling in line with the global model, and equipped with range of upmarket features, Skoda Rapid couldn’t fetch desired sales result in Indian market. Now, the latest update in its Style trim comes as a desperate move from the brand to add zing to the sedan.

However, in the latest update, Skoda has not added any more changes except two airbags. The car comes powered by the same 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that is capable of churning out 103 bhp of peak power between 5,200 rpm and 5,250 rpm along with 153 Nm of peak torque between 3,750 rpm and 3,800 rpm.

There is a diesel variant of the car on offer as well. It gets energy from a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine that is capable of kicking out 108 bhp of peak power at 4,000 rpm and 250 Nm of peak torque between 1,500 rpm and 2,500 rpm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual gearbox, a 6-speed automatic unit and a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox as well.

Meanwhile Skoda is working on its much talked Eco platform that is a cheaper derivative of the MQB architecture. The company is eyeing to launch more SUVs in the domestic market in near future in order to boost its sales and market stake here.
