The Skoda Kodiaq has managed to make a market of its own, with best-in-class comfort and luxury, now company planning to launch Scout variant in India

The true off-road version of the Skoda Kodiaq is set to hit the Indian markets on 30 September. Apart from visual changes and a rugged overall look, the Kodiaq Scout will boast additional equipment, a higher ground clearance over the standard model, and better approach and departure angles making it more capable off the road.

The Scout will also feature an off-road driving mode, which is not seen on either of the two other variants currently sold in India. Under the hood, Skoda Kodiaq Scout will carry-forward the same 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine paired to a 7-speed DSG transmission that’s currently on offer with the standard Kodiaq. The engine is rated at 150PS/340Nm.

If cues are to be taken from the international version of the Kodiaq Scout, the Indian-spec model will see additions like black plastic cladding with silver metallic inserts on both the front and rear bumpers. The international version also sports 19-inch alloy wheels, silver roof-rails and ORVM covers, and of course, ‘Scout’ external badging.

Inside the cabin, the Kodiaq Scout will feature an all-black theme in contrast to the two-tone interiors of the regular Kodiaq. The Kodiaq Scout will likely be identically equipped to the current top-spec Kodiaq L&K variant.

If such is the case, the inclusion of a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster wooden dash inserts and Alcantara upholstery on the seats (but with a ‘Scout’ logo) can be expected.

The Kodiaq Style is priced at Rs 35.37 lakh, and the L&K’s price is set at Rs 36.79 lakh (ex-showroom). Expect the Kodiaq Scout to sit right above the top-end Kodiaq L&K in terms of pricing. The Kodiaq’s current competitors include the Honda CR-V and the Volkswagen Tiguan. With the introduction of an off-road capable variant, the Kodiaq will also put up against Ford Endeavour, Mahindra Alturas G4 and Toyota Fortuner
