Skoda Fabia To Be Upgraded As Premium Hatchback?

Low-cost ‘Eco’ platform to play crucial role in Skoda’s growth strategy in India; comes as a modified version of MQB architecture

Skoda is aiming to grow bigger in Indian market with cost affordable premium products and one of them is going to be the next generation Fabia hatchback. It is expected be upgraded as a premium hatch and it would be based on the low-cost Eco platform that the Czech brand is emphasising on for the growth in domestic market.

As we reported earlier, Skoda is focusing on rolling out several new products that will be underpinned by the Eco platform, a cheaper derivative of Volkswagen’s very popular MQB architecture. Skoda has excelled in developing cost effective premium products in recent times and inspired by that, its parent brand Volkswagen too is aiming to develop India-specific low-cost premium products.

Both Volkswagen and Skoda will work jointly for this project and Eco Platform to play major role, as we have already said. The new products will come concentrating on the demands of the Indian buyers. Expect the in-car technology, connectivity options to be key features for these upcoming Skoda and VW models.

Skoda is working on a Hyundai Creta rivaling SUV, keeping an eye on the domestic market. Apart from that, the brand is also developing a new sedan and the premium hatchback as well that are expected to arrive here by 2022. Premium hatchback segment in the country has seen a huge boost in recent past. The new Skoda premium hatchback, assumed to be the next generation Fabia will lock horns with rivals like Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz and the Volkswagen Polo as well.

Skoda wants to grab at least 5% market share in the country by 2025 with the help of low-cost Eco platform. The brand is aiming to increase production volume as well and a major chunk of that will be exported to overseas markets. So far, both Skoda and Volkswagen are aiming to bank on the increasing demand for affordable premium cars in the India.
