SAIC has confirmed its India entry; ready to roll out cars from 2019 under MG Motor India badge
Chinese automaker SAIC Motor has confirmed its entry in Indian market and the company will roll out cars in the domestic market from 2019 under the MG Motor’s badge. Meanwhile, the automobile group has revealed the LDV D90 that is expected to hit the Chinese market in August this year. As it seems, this could be a perfect vehicle to compete with the Toyota Fortuner that is quite popular here.
The LDV D90 has been inspired by the Maxus D90 concept that was showcased at Auto China last year. Interestingly, MG Motor India could sells models from the other SAIC subsidiaries like Boajun, Maxus and Roewe. In that case, the LDV D90 too has a good chance to be rolled out here to represent the group in the segment of Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport as well.
Given the high demands and popularity of the SUV and crossovers in India, SAIC plans to start its journey here with a SUV. However, the brand is yet to confirm the model lineup. Interestingly, this is going to be the first Chinese automobile group to sell cars in the country and with arrival of the brand competition in the market is surely about to go to next level.
Speaking about the LDV D90, this SUV comes with a very strong and muscular presence. Built on a ladder frame chassis, it is actually based on the LDV T60 pickup truck. Dimensionally, it appears 5,005 m long and 1,932 mm wide, while the height of this model is 1,875 mm. The SUV gets three different seating layout options that are 5, 6 and 7 seater.
It gets several upmarket features inside the cabin to deliver a high quality vibe. On the powertrain front, it gets a 2.-litre turbocharged petrol engine, a 2.2-litre diesel unit and a 2.8-litre diesel engine as well. Transmission options would include a manual gearbox and an automatic unit as well. This SUV will get both 4×2 and 4×4 drivetrain options.
