Royal Enfield will launch the New BS-VI versions of existing motorcycles late this year followed by 2 all-new motorcycles
Royal Enfield has seen massive growth in its sales figures in last fiscal as the renowned homegrown two-wheeler manufacturer was able to sell around 8 Lakhs motorcycles in FY19. Recently the bike maker announced to spend around Rs. 700 crores for the development of their new platforms and upcoming new products. Royal Enfield is developing a total of 5 new motorcycles that will be launched within the next 3 years in the Indian market along with some international markets. Below are the details which we know so far about the five upcoming motorcycles from RE.
1. 2020 Royal Enfield BS-VI Classic Series
We have already reported that Royal Enfield is testing the 2020 RE Classic on the Indian roads. The biggest change that will be made to the motorcycle will come in the form of an updated engine that will meet the upcoming BS-VI emission norms. The engine get the new fuel-injection technology that will replace the carburettor from the Classic 350.
The Classic 350 currently uses a 346 cc single cylinder, air-cooled unit. This unit paired with a 5-speed gearbox produces about 19.8 bhp of peak power and 28 Nm of torque. Hopefully, the upcoming engines will be slightly more refined and generate a little more power than the current engine unit.
The Classic 500, on the other hand, will also receive a similar kind of changes as well. The present-gen engine already features a fuel-injected 499cc mill that produces about 27.2 BHP of peak power and 41.3 Nm of maximum torque. RE will have to rework to make this present mill comply with the upcoming BS-VI emission norms.
2. 2020 BS-VI Royal Enfield Thunderbird
RE introduced the Thunderbird X in February 2018 in India. This motorcycle was a more city-friendly variant of the Thunderbird cruiser. Besides the new 2020 Classic series motorcycle, the 2020 RE Thunderbird model was also spotted recently while testing.
Just like the Classic 350 and 500 models, the Thunderbird too will get the new BS-VI compliant engine.
As far as some other mechanical changes are concerned, the upcoming Thunderbird will also feature a new lowered swingarm as well alongside few other cosmetic updates as well. The Thunderbird X will be offered in both 350 and 500cc variants as usual.
3. 2020 Royal Enfield BS-VI Bullet 350 and Bullet 500
The Bullet 350 and Bullet 500 are the oldest motorcycle in the Royal Enfield lineup and they have been in production since they were introduced back in the 1930s. Both the Bullet 350 and 500 variants too will receive the similar BS-VI compliant engine which will power the Classic and Thunderbird motorcycles. Besides the new powerplant, the motorcycle will also receive a few cosmetic updates as well without actually hampering the retro appeal.
4. Royal Enfield Meteor 838cc
To everyone’s surprise, Royal Enfield showcased the futuristic KX concept at the 2018 EICMA Motorcycle show last year. The concept took its styling inspiration from the 1140cc V-twin Meteor Bobber. Few reports also state that RE has patented the ‘Meteor’ name for the European market and the same will also be used for the production variant as well.
The KX Concept that was showcased at the show featured a brand-new 838 cc V-twin engine. This liquid cooled, fuel injected unit can produce around 90 Hp of peak power. What is even more interesting is also the fact that the chassis of the motorcycle has been developed by Harris performance.
The concept featured many modern and premium features never seen before in a RE motorcycle. However, expect the production variant to miss out on a few of those premium and modern features in order to keep the overall prices down.
5. Royal Enfield Himalayan 650
This definitely has to be one of the most awaited motorcycle for many adventure seekers of the country. The Himalayan is Royal Enfield’s first adventure motorcycle which is powered by a 411cc, oil-cooled engine that produces about 24.5 bhp of peak power and 32 Nm of peak torque. However, many owners have complained that this power and torque output figures are not enough in real-world situations.
So there is a fair chance that RE might introduce a powerful 648cc, parallel-twin mill for the Himalayan that also powers the recently launched 650 twins but in a different state of tune. Although we are not exactly sure at this moment, but RE will most probably introduce the Himalayan 650 only after the new BS-VI emission norms are implemented in the country next year.
